possible involvement of gabaa receptor sites in catalepsy

چکیده
the present work was performed to show the possible interaction of gab a, and gabab receptors in catalepsy. the following results were obtained: 1- muscimol (mus), a gabaa agonist, induced catalepsy. this effect was dose-dependent. baclofen (bac), a gabab agonist, had no effect in this respect. 2- catalepsy induced by muscimol was potentiated by pretreatment of animals with bicuculline (bic), a gabaa antagonist, while pretreatment of animals with picrotoxin (pic), another gabaa antagonist, did not change the response. 3- the cataleptogenic effect of a-flupenthixol (a-fpt), a neuroleptic which is a potent cataleptogenic drug, was also increased by bicuculline pretreatment. aflupenthixol, in animals pretreated with picrotoxin, induced a small but significant increase in catalepsy. 4- muscimol catalepsy may be due to gaba inhibitory effect of the drug upon dopaminergic function, while potentiation of cataleptogenic effect of a-flupenthixol or that of muscimol by bicuculline may be exerted through release of gaba from gabaergic nerve endings

متن کاملGABAA receptor subtype involvement in addictive behaviour.
GABAA receptors form the major class of inhibitory neurotransmitter receptors in the mammalian brain. This review sets out to summarize the evidence that variations in genes encoding GABAA receptor isoforms are associated with aspects of addictive behaviour in humans, while animal models of addictive behaviour also implicate certain subtypes of GABAA receptor. In addition to outlining the evide...
متن کاملHypothermic activity of acetaminophen; Involvement of GABAA receptor, theoretical and experimental studies
Objective(s):The mechanism of hypothermia action of acetaminophen (APAP) remains unclear even 125 years after its synthesis. Acetaminophen produces hypothermia. The mechanism of this reduction in core body temperature is not clear but evidence shows that it is not dependent on opioid and cannabinoid receptors. Because of strong documents about the roles of GABA and benzodiazepine receptors in h...
متن کاملProtective Action of Resveratrol in Human Skin: Possible Involvement of Specific Receptor Binding Sites
BACKGROUND Resveratrol is a plant-derived polyphenol with purported protecting action on various disorders associated with aging. It has been suggested that resveratrol could exert its protective action by acting on specific plasma membrane polyphenol binding sites (Han Y.S., et al. (2006) J Pharmacol Exp Ther 318:238-245). The purpose of this study was to investigate, in human skin, the possib...
متن کاملDose-Dependent Effect of Flouxetine on 6-OHDA-Induced Catalepsy in Male Rats: A Possible Involvement of 5-HT1A Receptors.
PURPOSE Progressive loss of dopaminergic neurons of the substantia nigra pars compacta (SNc) in Parkinson's disease (PD) leads to impairment of motor skills. Several evidences show that the role of serotonergic system in regulation of normal movement is pivotal and mediates via 5-HT1A receptors. Our previous study has shown that fluoxetine in acute injections able to attenuate catalepsy in 6-hy...
